Meet your dentists

Dr. Colin Barbaro

Dr. Colin Barbaro is excited to serve the Pittsboro community with advanced dental care. A North Carolina native and UNC graduate, Dr. Barbaro completed specialized training at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Antonio—one of the country's top dental residency programs.

His advanced training allows him to offer IV sedation and complex dental implant procedures, along with comprehensive care including root canals, cosmetic dentistry, and Invisalign. Dr. Barbaro is passionate about implant dentistry and has published research in the field.

When not treating patients, Dr. Barbaro enjoys time with his wife Lauren (also a dentist), their five children, and their dog Pearl. He's an avid sports fan and loves fly fishing.

Dr. John Kizer

Dr. John Kizer is a Chapel Hill native (Go Heels!) who brings a unique blend of artistry and dental expertise to patient care. After earning his psychology degree from Rhodes College and running a custom woodworking business, Dr. Kizer discovered his passion for dentistry—combining his love of detailed craftsmanship with healthcare.

Dr. Kizer graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, where he was recognized for excellence in prosthodontics, and completed an Advanced General Dentistry residency at ECU. His training includes complex procedures like implant placement, full mouth rehabilitation, and oral surgery.

Just like his custom furniture, Dr. Kizer understands that every patient is unique and deserves personalized care. He lives in Chapel Hill with his wife Alexandra and son John, and enjoys mountain biking, woodworking, and UNC sports.

Dr. Emily Kiner

Originally from Palm City, FL, Dr. Emily Kiner knew from a young age that she wanted to become a dentist as she always enjoyed her dental appointments. She loved the hands-on nature of the profession, the blend of art and science, and the immediate positive impact that dentistry provided to the patient. Dr. Kiner attended the University of Florida for her undergraduate studies and then moved to NC to attend the UNC Adams School of Dentistry.

Dr. Kiner has a passion for patient education and empowering patients to take control of their oral health. She believes in transparency and taking the time to understand each patient’s own unique needs. From fillings to crowns to dentures, she takes pride in providing her patients with clinically exceptional work.

Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband and pets, mothering her houseplants, baking and cooking delicious food, and enjoying the great outdoors!

Dr. Mark Cummings

Dr. Mark Cummings is a Chatham County resident and pediatric dentist dedicated to creating positive dental experiences for children. After earning his dental degree from UNC Chapel Hill and working as a general dentist, Dr. Cummings discovered his passion for helping young patients overcome dental fears.

Realizing that childhood dental experiences shape lifelong attitudes toward oral health, he completed a specialized Pediatric Dental Residency at East Carolina University in 2018. His advanced training focuses on making dental visits safe, comfortable, and even fun for kids.

Dr. Cummings lives locally with his wife Caitlin and daughters Sophia and Capel. When not caring for his young patients, he enjoys gardening—growing hot peppers, tomatoes, and tending to his roses and Japanese Maples.
